Hofstra University Program Review
Students at Hofstra will receive a high-quality educational experience that encourages them to work to the best of their potential. Free exchange of ideas and inquiry are promoted, and students are allowed to study topics and engage in discussion of topics that interest them the most. The school wants to make an impact not only on the lives of its students but also on the community at large as well.
Hofstra University was established in 1935 by the lumber magnate William S. Hofstra. The school’s Hempsted, New York, campus now stands on what was formerly Hofstra’s estate. Originally, the school was part of New York University, but in 1937 became an independent institution. Today the school enrolls thousands of students and allows classes to be taken not only on campus but online as well.
Hofstra offers students both academic and extracurricular activities that can enrich their educational experience. The school boasts a well-respected communications department that will allow students to not only get the knowledge they need in classes but hands on experience working for the school’s publications and media outlets. When they’re not studying, students at Hofstra can enjoy the school’s large arboretum and bird sanctuaries or take part in the annual Shakespeare festival.
For those who cannot attend on campus classes at Hofstra, a variety of options are offered for distance learners. Students will get their lectures and course materials delivered through multimedia presentations and an online platform. This format allows students to work at their own pace and at times that work best for them. As of present, Hofstra has a limited number of degree programs that are offered entirely online, but students can take advantage of them to earn degrees like a Masters in Computer Science on their own terms.
