California University of Pennsylvania Program Review

California University of Pennsylvania is dedicated to helping students develop personally and professionally. The school provides opportunities for intellectual growth, career preparation, and most importantly, personal improvement. Values like integrity, responsibility and service are instilled in each California University student, whether they are active in the liberal arts, technology-related programs, athletics, community service or pre-professional organizations. California University's mission of "building character and careers" rests on three values: student achievement and success, institutional excellence, and community service.

California University of Pennsylvania is located in the Borough of California, on the Appalachian Plateau, approximately an hour south of Pittsburgh. The school was founded in 1852 as an education institution serving students from kindergarten through college. In 1865, the school became a teacher preparatory school, and in 1874 was renamed the South-Western Normal School. Over the next 100 years, the school began to add more advanced and diverse degrees, and was purchased by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1983, it became known as California University. Today, the school continues to expand and houses two additional campuses in Canonsburg, PA, and in Pittsburgh, PA.
