Gonzaga University Program Review

Gonzaga University is dedicated to creating a learning environment for its students that embraces their Jesuit Catholic heritage while maintaining an atmosphere of free intellectual inquiry for students. Students will be encouraged to develop themselves intellectually and creatively while building confidence and their knowledge of their communities at home and those around the world. The university hopes that graduates become creative, productive, and moral individuals who are able to meet their own goals while sharing their success with others.

Founded in 1887 by the Society of Jesuits, Gonzaga University is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The school was founded by Father Joseph Cataldo who wanted to create a Catholic school in the area for local Native Americans. The campus of the school is located in Spokane, Washington, but students can study abroad at the campus in Florence, Italy, or from home with the online program.

Students at Gonzaga will get a firm foundation in the liberal arts with the school’s required core curriculum, which blends courses in philosophy, religious studies, math, literature, natural and social sciences, and writing. Currently, there are 92 undergraduate and 21 graduate programs offered at Gonzaga. Students will be among some notable alumni, with singer Bing Crosby, former Speaker of the House Tom Foley, and Washington state’s first female state attorney general Christine Gregoire calling the school their alma mater.

Online classes at Gonzaga offer students the opportunity to work in small classes and get personal attention from faculty while still maintaining the flexibility an online program can offer. Currently, Gonzaga is only offering Master’s degree programs online, as a reflection of the popularity of these programs on campus. Students will be able to network with classmates, get access to 24/7 technical support and the ability to work at their own pace. Degree programs are available in majors like Organizational Leadership, Communication and Leadership, and Nursing.
