Northern Kentucky University Program Review

Northern Kentucky University hopes to produce graduates that are not only successful in their careers but that are global citizens who have developed a lifelong love of learning. Faculty and staff aim to support the educational goals of students and to aid students in their personal and professional development. The university wants to become a center of academic research, culture and a positive influence on the local community.

NKU began as Northern Kentucky State College when it was founded in 1968 and was originally part of the University of Kentucky. In 1976 the school finally became an independent institution and has been granting degrees as NKU ever since. The school’s main campus is in Highland Heights, Kentucky, near the Ohio border, and there are additional campuses in Covington and Williamstown, KY, as well as on online program.

Northern Kentucky boasts an enviable assemblage of faculty who are experts in a diverse group of fields. Professors at the school are well known pianists, actors, novelist, politicians and historians. Students will also be able to enrich their educational experience with extracurricular activities that range from the student-run newspaper and radio stations to listening to well-known speakers like Steve Forbes.

Students can take high quality courses from NKU’s online program to help fit a degree program into a busy lifestyle and to make it easier to balance work and personal commitments. Online coursework at NKU is delivered using the Blackboard educational platform. With it, students can catch up on their assignments, find lectures and contribute to discussions with other students. Online programs are offered at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Professional Certification levels in fields like Health Science, Education and Instructional Leadership.
